A couple of comments: first, I sell a patch set that can be loaded directly into the RP via a USB connection from a computer, not just a manual. Buyers actually get several loadable patch sets, including one set up for full-on amped sounds, and another for FX only (for those players who already love their amp and just want some cool reverbs, delays, and other FX to go with it).
Second, the lower order Digitechs can be user friendly, provided you're using them in a very simple way. For example, if you just want a reverb or delay effect, you can set up a patch pretty quickly that has the effect only, with everything else turned off. (Of course, you need to crack open the manual to know how to do that...) Given the quality of the reverbs and delays in the latest RPs, that's not a bad option, especially since you can use both at once. However, I must note that the RP50 and 70 don't have great reverbs--the RP150 or 155 is the way to go for those.
One more comment: the built-in footpedal on the RP250/255/350/355 is in my opinion an essential feature. Even with a simple reverb or delay effect, you can use that footpedal to control delay time, delay level, reverb level, etc. It makes the device MUCH more expressive. (That's why it's called an expression pedal...) That's why I recommend an RP250 or 255 as the minimum. The price difference between one of those and an RP155 is about $25, which I don't consider to be enough savings to make it worth buying the lower-end model.
